Adele Doyle

Biography

Adele Doyle earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University, studying cardiovascular tissue engineering in Robert Nerem's laboratory. She completed postdoctoral studies in stem cell systems biology at Harvard University in the group of Sharad Ramanathan. She then moved to her current position at UCSB and is affiliated with the Neuroscience Research Institute and Center for BioEngineering.

Research

The Doyle group studies how stem cells learn to respond to mechanical forces and electrical cues during the development and maintenance of functional organ systems. We focus primarily on development and homeostasis case studies in the nervous and cardiovascular organ systems. We use approaches from biology, engineering, and computer science to study the molecular circuits that enable specialized mechanosignaling. We seek quantitative insights to help design cell and regenerative medicine therapies for neural and vascular applications.
